Abstract
601,874. Paper and like bags. ST. REGIS PAPER CO. Oct. 9, 1945, No. 26331. Convention date, Sept. 21, 1944. [Class 94(ii)] A multi - ply bag has the outer plies 14, 15 of paper, or the like and a liner 13 of fluid - impervious material the plies all being secured by sewing or stapling 11, in which the opposed wall surfaces of the liner, at least along a band just inside the seam 11, are formed of, or coated with, thermoplastic material which is pressed together. The liner has provision for free extension within the outer plies to allow for the pressure of the contents to be taken by the outer plies. A binding tape 10 is secured over the mouth of the bag, which may have a valve. The seal 12 may be applied prior to sewing or stapling the bag but is preferably applied by heat sealing afterwards. The ply 14, and the liner 13 may be of creped paper. In a modified arrangement, the liner 13 is in the form of a coating on an inner sheet which has folds, inside the outer paper plies, to allow for expansion when the bag is filled. The liner may be creped in one section only.
