Abstract

599,088. Delivery apparatus for printing &c. machines. HOE & CO., Ltd., R., and TURRALL, G. July 20, 1945, No. 18617. [Class 100 (i)] Folded products delivered from a printing machine are delivered in counted batches alternately by two conveyers to two receivers, one of the batches being given an angular movement prior to the two batches being superposed one on the other, so that the assembled batches are distinguished from one another by the different orientation of the folded edges. The products leaving a printing-' machine are delivered in counted batches alternately to two conveyers 1, 2, as described in Specification 599,082, with their folded-edges leading. The batch on the lower conveyer 2 is deposited as a pile on a receiver 9, 11, in the form of a grid, whilst the batch on the upper conveyer is piled on slats 6 on a conveyer 7 against stops 8. A tubular shaft 12 carries the support 10 for the receiver 9, and is rotatable with but movable axially along a shaft 13 carrying it. After a batch has been deposited thereon, the receiver 9 is turned through 180 degrees and at the same time raised so that it becomes positioned above a fixed table 24 situated at the delivery end of the conveyer 7. The receiver 9 is now lowered and passes through the table 24 to deposit the batch thereon with its folded edges pointing in a reverse direction. During this period, a batch has collected on the slats 6 and the conveyer 7 is now operated to deposit this batch on the top of the batch from the conveyer 2, the two batches being distinguishable by the displacement of their folds. Arms 45 on a conveyer 44 move upwardly through the table 24 to carry the batches away. The table 24 is adjusted in height so that the top of the first batch is at the correct level for receiving the second batch. To oscillate the receiver 9, a gear 14 on the 'shaft 13 engages a pivoted segmental gear 15 carrying a roller 17 running in cam groove 18<1> of a member 18 driven by gearing 19, 20, 21, 22 from a part of the machine. Fast with the member 18 is a similar grooved member 32 with a follower-roller 33 on a pivoted arm 34 having a roller 37 riding in a slot 38 in a member 31 which is oscillated thereby. The member 31 through gearing 30, 29, and a rack 28 attached to the shaft 12 imparts the up-and-down movement to the receiver 9. The intermittent movement of the conveyer 7 is obtained from a mutilated gear 41 driven from the machine. Members 46 pivoted on the conveyer 7 and which push the batch therefrom on to the table 24 are controlled by a cam track 47.
