597,277. Mining - machines. ANDERSON, A. and ANDERSON, BOYES, & CO., Ltd. July 9, 1946, No. 17401/45. [Class 68 (i)] A combined cutting and loading longwall mining machine comprises a cutting unit 10 of jib-chain-cutter type and a loading unit 11 of the transverse conveyer type attached to the rear of the cutting unit, and two electric or fluid-pressure motors 12, 13, mounted side-by-side in the cutting unit, motor 12 driving the cutter and motor 13 driving the loader through means including a coupling shaft 15 extending across the cutting mechanism. In other forms, the cutting unit includes upper and lower jibchain-cutters, the upper one, if desired, being capable of vertical adjustment through a hydraulic pump driven by either motor.
