Abstract
596,787. Stethoscopes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Oct. 3, 1944, No. 18894. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1943. Addition to 568,128. [Class 81 (ii)] A stethoscope having the general construction disclosed in the parent Specifification is formed with an acoustical filter device whereby to prevent the energy of certain frequencies from reaching the earpieces. As shown a tube 16 is interposed between the tube 23 provided with a tapered bore leading from the bodycontacting member and the Y-connector 17 leading to the ear plugs, and is formed with two or more holes 30, 31 in its wall. Rotatably surrounding the holes is a tubular member 33 closed at each end and divided as by partition 35 to provide a number of chambers 34, 36 corresponding to the number of holes in tube 16. The inner walls of these chambers are apertured as at 37, 38 so that on rotation of the member 33, none, or any one or more, of the chambers 34, 36 are brought into communication with the interior of tube 16, thereby acting as Helmholtz resonators to reject or attenuate some frequencies or bands of frequencies being transmitted through tube 23. The member 33 may be releasably locked in any desired position.
