Abstract
A foot arch support capable of being moulded to the exact shape of the foot by inserting a heated shaped blank in a shoe and subjecting it to the pressure of the foot is made from an alloy such as one containing 4 parts lead, 5-8 parts bismuth, 2 parts tin and 1-2 parts cadmium. The alloy has a melting point of 50 DEG C. and is normally hard or resilient at temperatures normally existing in a shoe.ALSO:A foot-arch support comprises a member composed of a substance or mixture of substances normally hard or resilient at temperatures normally existing in a shoe &c. during wear but relatively soft and mouldable at a temperature bearable to the user's foot and initially formed to the approximate profile and varying thicknesses required in the support. The member is heated before or after insertion in a shoe and moulded to exact shape required by inserting the foot. The member may be cut to suitable profile from a sheet of thermoplastic material and ground or otherwise shaped to the approximate varying thicknesses required with an exaggerated arch or it may be moulded to approximate shape with an exaggerated arch. Waxes or thermoplastic substances such as synthetic resins may be employed. A steel or like reinforcement may be embedded in the member the upper surface of which may be provided with a covering of leather, fabric or other bad heat conducting material.
