Abstract
582,264. Fluid-pressure brakes; cooling. KENNEY, V. R. July 13, 1944, No. 13451. [Class 103 (i)] In a hydraulic brake with a stationary drum 42 having passages 46 for circulation of a cooling fluid, and in which the shoes 25 rotate with the wheel 21, a master cylinder 55, coaxial with wheel 21 and fixed axle 10, also rotates with the wheel. The piston 58 moves axially only with respect to fixed axle 10 and is actuated by the rod and lever mechanism, 60, 62, 68. Actuating fluid pressure is conveyed from the master cylinder 55 to a shoe-actuating cylinder 28 secured to the wheel, by a conduit 70 rotating with the wheel. The cooling fluid for the drum may be drawn from the common cooling system of the vehicle.
