Abstract
589,831. Polishing wheels. MERCER, A. C. Feb. 22, 1945, No. 4431. [Class 60] A polishing wheel comprises a pulley having spaced peripheral flanges, a pneumatic tube being placed in the space between the flanges to afford a cushion or support for the buffing surface or strip placed around the pulley, a rubber or like pad being placed around the pneumatic tube between the latter and the flanges and buffing surface or strip. Between flanges 4 on a pulley wheel 1 a pneumatic tube 5 is enclosed by a protective rubber pad 7 supporting a buffing strip 6. The tube 5 may be of elliptical cross-section and the pad 7 may have a concave strip-holding surface when the inner tube is deflated. An inflating valve may be inclined contrary to the direction of rotation of the wheel.
