[Class 83 (iii)] End facing.-A tool for shaving down local protuberances from a generally flat surface, such as rivet heads in an aerofoil surface, comprises.a body 17 with a hollow end 19 terminating in a flat extremity 15 adapted to be manually held on the surface surrounding the protuberance, a rotary cutter 12 adapted to be fed axially along the end member 19 independently of the pressure applying the tool to the work and a stop for limiting the feed motion in a predetermined position relatively to the extremity 15. The cutter is detachably secured to a shaft 21 adapted to be driven by an electric or pneumatic motor 23 and mounted by means of bearings 26, 27 and 31 in a sleeve 25 which can be moved axially within the body 17 by means of two inclined slots in the body 17 through which pass pins 36 carried in holes in the sleeve 25 and in an outer portion 13 which surrounds part of the body 17 and is adapted to be held by the hand of the operator for manual adjustment during the cutting operation. The axial feed of the tool is continued against the action of a spring 33 until the pins 36 reach the ends of the slots, the position of the cutter relatively to the surface being determined by the adjustment of the end portion 19 which is in screw-threaded engagement with the body 17 and which may be locked in adjusted position by a nut 20. The pins are held in position by a clip 37.
