Abstract
571,027. Sights for firearms. VESELY, J. July 23, 1943, No. 12034. [Class 119] Relates to back-sights for smallarms of the kind in which a number of arms arranged on a common rotatable member have sighting notches or apertures spaced at different distances from the axis of rotation, and are thus adapted for selective use at different ranges. According to the invention, the sighting-arms (10, 11, 12 in the construction shown) are so arranged on the rotatable member which supports them between side walls 3 of a boxlike casing open at the top, that there is at least one inoperative position of the sight in which no sighting-arm is exposed above the open top of the casing, the arms being thus protected when out of use. Fig. 3 shows the sight in the inoperative position, and Fig. 2 shows the sighting-arm 10 in position for use. The rotatable member, which is a sleeve on a fixed spindle 8, has squared portions 14 acted upon by springs 16 which retain the arms in any position to which they are turned.
