Abstract
576,528. Lift cages. EXPRESS LIFT CO., Ltd., and DIXIE, W. A. Jan. 31, 1944, No. 1788. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] Driving apparatus for a lift or the like comprises a main motor with a shaft connected thereto carrying a multi-vee belt pulley adapted to drive the hoisting sheave of the lift through a multi-vee belt drive, and an auxiliary motor connected through a mechanical clutch with said shaft and arranged, when the clutch is engaged, to drive the shaft at a lower speed than that at which it is driven by the main motor. In the embodiment shown, the hoisting sheave of the lift is normally driven by the electric motor 2 through multi-vee belting connected to a pulley 4. When the lift is to be driven at " levelling speed " a pulley 10 connected by belting 9 to the auxiliary motor 6 is moved axially against spring means into engagement with a friction disc 15 on the pulley 4, and the power supply to the motor 2 cut off, the armature on the shaft 3 serving as a fly wheel. The pulley 10 is moved axially through a lever 16 pivoted at 17 on the frame 5 and adapted to engage a crosshead 18 connected by a pair of rods to a member 20 which has a ball thrust bearing connection with the boss of the pulley 10. The lever is held in its inoperative position by the core 27 of a solenoid 25, but is moved to its operative position by spring 16 on de-energization of the solenoid coil 26 which is effected bv movement of the cage switch to " levelling" position. The various control devices may be supplied with current by a small D.C. generator driven through belting by a pulley 30. Lubricant in a receptacle 23 is distributed through channels in the shaft.
