Abstract
575,823. Electromagnetic switches; thermal switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 13, 1944, No. 6805. Convention date, April 16, 1943. [Class 38 (v)] A thermal switch consists of a contact 13 mounted on a blade 14 fixed to block 15 and biased towards contact 12. A conductor 16 is mounted alongside the blade 14 and connected in series therewith. Their currents are in the same direction and the resultant electromagnetic attraction holds the contacts together until the pressure from rod 21 on a bimetallic strip 19 acting on the blade causes them to separate with a snap action. In Fig. 2 (not shown) a second fixed contact and conductor are arranged on the opposite side of the blade, whereby the latter is held electromagnetically in the displaced position and an alternative connection to the outside circuit is thereby made. The conductors are of different resistances so that when the contact is in the displaced position there is a reduction in the current passing to the heater.
