Abstract
561,698. Fluid - pressure servomotor control systems. HARBEN, J. E. Feb. 12, 1943, No. 2332. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXI] If the rate of flow through a sluice gate is excessive, the gate is closed automatically by hydraulic apparatus controlled by a paddle on the down stream side of the gate. The gate is raised non-automatically by a pump. The gate e is connected to a piston working in cylinder d having its upper end connected by pipe f to an oil or other liquid reservoir b and its lower end connected by a pipe to a hydraulic accumulator n and thence by pipe k<1> to valve k controlled by paddle h. The paddle is counterweighted at j in accordance with the maximum flow required, and has a mass at its upper end to locate its centre of gravity at the knife edge pivot i. The valve k when released by the paddle opens a return pipe k<2> to the reservoir so that the gate closes by gravity. When the piston in cylinder d has moved down past the upper end of pipe c<4>, free transfer of liquid from one side of the piston to the other is permitted under control of regulator c<5> to reduce resistance by the hydraulic system as the load on the gate increases. The gate is raised by a pump a connected by pipe a<1> and ball valve c to the lower end of cylinder d. Pressure causes valve c to close the transfer pipe c<4> and is applied over pipe k<1> to close valve k. Pipe k<2> has a non-return valve m.
