Abstract
566,214. Stuffing -box substitutes. STEVENS, A. H. (Crane Packing Co.). June 18, 1943, No. 9845. [Class 122 (v)] A member 25 secured to a shaft carries a gland ring 21 and a flexible member 31 forming a chamber 35 open to the pressure of working fluid, whereby the fluid pressure on the gland ring is balanced. The bearing pressure between a ring 17 carried by the gland ring, and the stationary housing is thus provided solely by the spring 36. The ring 17 may be of carbon, the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Sakelite,'' or fibrous material.
