Abstract

551,689. Coating metals etc.; building up surfaces by spraying. LUMB, C. F. Aug. 26, 1941, No. 10883. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A hard surface is built up upon metallic or non-metallic base by spraying aluminium and iron or steel with a percentage of iron oxide all in powder form on the base with sufficient heat to ignite the mixture and result in the same being partially fused and firmly attached thereto by welding or intense molecular cohesion. The iron oxide may predominate in the mixture which may be sprayed through a flame of high temperature, e.g. by use of the apparatus described in Specification 432,831. The mixture may also comprise a proportion of a hardening material such as chromium, nickel, tungsten, molybdenum and vanadium in powdered form. A suitable non-metallic base to be treated is one made of fire-proof cement.
