Abstract
551,531. Filters. AUTO-KLEAN STRAINERS, Ltd., BELDHAM, W. R., and FREEMAN, J. E. Aug. 19, 1941, No. 10575. [Class 46] A filter, particularly for use in the lubrication of engines and machinery, comprises filter elements 4, 5 arranged in compartments 2, 3 of a casing 1 so that liquid supplied through an inlet 7 is filtered by the element 4, part of the filtered liquid passing to an outlet 10 and part passing through the element 5. which has finer size apertures in mesh, to on outlet 20. In a lubricating system, the outlet 10 leads to the apparatus to be lubricated and the outlet 20 to the source of supply. A spring-pressed bypass ball valve 22 may be provided for the element 4 and a needle or other valve 28 for controlling or shutting- off the supply to the element 5. The valve 28 may be arranged at either end of the tube 12 or in the delivery passage of the element 5. In a modification, the elements 4, 5 are arranged with their axes aligned in a cylindrical casing. The elements 4, 5 may be of the kinds described in Specifications 145,339, 215,098, 334,029, [all in Class 46], and 397,907 and each compartment may house a plurality of elements.
