Abstract

555,089. Fining beer &c. AFRICAN SISAL & PRODUCE CO., Ltd., and BROWNE, R. J. Jan. 26, 1942, No. 1069. [Class 14 (ii)] Beer and other alcoholic beverages are fined by addition of dilute solutions of salts of hydrolysed or partially hydrolysed pectin : In an example, a 1 per cent water solution of pectin is mixed with an equal quantity of N/30 caustic soda solution and maintained at 60‹F. for twelve minutes and then brought to pH7.5 by addition of acid, and the liquid added to beer. The solution may be fully hydrolysed to form sodium pectate. Isinglass may be added to the solution. Specification 544,810 is referred to.
