549,965. Converting. GRASEBY, R. C. May 8, 1941, No. 5974. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A pulsating current of a desired frequency is obtained by connecting up two electromagnets 2, 3 in series with a D.C. source 24, 25, through interrupter contacts 13 on a, tuned reed 11 controlled by one of the electromagnets 2, the tuned reed 27 of the other electromagnet 3 serving to transmit at contacts 32 a pulsating current to terminals 44, 45, 46 which are connected to a synchronous motor. By this arrangement, the contacts on the reed 11 control only light currents and the frequency of the reed is not affected by them, while the reed 27 cannot fail to keep in synchronism with the reed 11. The natural frequency of vibration of reeds 11, 27, may be adjusted by movement of a nut at the end of the reed or by movement of the magnetic mass 12 or 29 along a slot in the reed. The apparatus may be kept at a uniform temperature by a thermostat.
