Abstract
548,438. Automatic circuit-breakers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 10, 1941. No. 8737. Convention date, July 11, 1940. [Class 38 (v)] The operating rod 11 of a circuit-breaker is closed by a pneumatically-moved lever 8 and held by latch 13 adapted to be tripped by a lever 23 on energization of a trip relay 21 and fault relay 17. The tripping operation also includes opening of a valve 33 whereby the space in the operating cylinder 5 below piston 4 is exhausted to atmosphere and the piston 4 and rod 11 allowed to drop at once to open position if closure on to a fault occurs. The trip circuit includes contacts 22 which are open when the breaker is open. The closing solenoid circuit includes a pressure-switch 27 and limit-switch 28 in addition to the coil 26 operating the valve 29. A cavity 29' in the latter leads to a port 30' to allow the cylinder 5 to exhaust normally, this port being closed by the left-hand part of the valve in its operative position.
