Abstract

527,111. Aircraft landing gear. DOWTY, G. H. March 31, 1939, No. 10141. [Class 4] A retractable landing gear comprising a leg 1 and a resilient mounting means 7, 10 for a landing element 9 is so arranged that in the retracted position the parts 7, 9, 10 are mainly housed in a stowage space of an aircraft structure while the leg occupies at most only a marginal portion of the stowage space. The leg is moved by a jack acting upon a breakable strut 13, 15, these parts becoming partially housed in the leg, which is of channel section, when the gear is retracted. The leg may be downwardly bowed to act as a landing-skid should it be impossible to lower the gear. The leg may have a fairing effective in the retracted position of the gear. The resilient mounting may be of the kind described in Specifications 473,756, 473,768, 517,370, 517,373, 517,380, 517,724, 521,219 and 522,833, and may be fitted with means for moving the resilient mounting and landing element during retraction as described in Specification 527,110.
