Abstract
526,917. Pneumatic separating. BARKER & SON ENGINEERS, Ltd., W. H., and BARKER, W. March 29, 1939, No. 9774. [Class 117] In apparatus for separating coal from dirt and other analogous purposes of the kind in which. the material under treatment is stratified on an air pervious support a by the jigging action of the support and an upwardly moving current of air supplied by a fan g into an air chamber b, the air is circulated by two hoods h, i covering the whole area of the support and connected to the inlet side of the fan. The hood h at the feed end of the table carries the most heavily dust laden air, and is in circuit with the pipe k, cyclone separator m, auxiliary fan o and a pipe p having an outlet q by which a small quantity of the air is exhausted to the atmosphere. The hood i over the discharge part of the support carries less heavily charged air and is connected directly by a pipe s to the fan g. A flexible closure j seals all the space between the hood h and the support and part of the space between the hood i and the support, the remaining part of the latter space supplying clean atmospheric air to make up for that exhausted through the pipe q. A regulating damper n preferably controls the return of air from the hood h to the main fan g.
