Abstract
526,337. Knitting-machines. HOLMES. H. H., WIDDOWSON, A. H., and WILDT & CO., Ltd. March 20. 1939, No. 8851. [Class 74 (ii)] A circular machine, in which, in addition to the ground thread or threads, wrap threads are knitted into the fabric, is provided with one or more warp beams 16 from which the wrap threads are supplied. A friction or other brake is provided for controlling the rotation of the beam, and may comprise a band 32 passing over a brake drum 33 secured to the beam and having at one end a tension spring 35 and at the other end a screw 34 by which the tension can be adjusted. The beam may be positively driven by worm 39 and wheel 38 gearing, the worm being driven through a friction drive 41, 42, the position of the driving member 42 of which can be controlled to allow for the reduction in the size of the winding upon the beam. Alternatively, the beam may be mounted upon an arm so pivoted that the beam rests upon a ratchet-driven roller. The speed of the warp beam is thus increased automatically as the wrap threads are wound off the beam. Draw-off cams for the wrap threads and cams for actuating the wrap guides rotating in unison with the needle-actuating cams may be provided. Specifications 376,350, 393,314 and 413,693 are referred to.
