Abstract

524,983. Gas-blast switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 9, 1939, No. 696. Convention date, Jan. 7, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] In a gas-blast circuit-breaker with a movable extinguishing head which provides an air isolating break subsequent to arc extinction, the construction is such that gas is expelled in the same direction as that in which the head moves to open the circuit. In the example shown in the Figure, a contact 1 is connected through an intermediate contact 6, which is adapted to slide in an insulating extinguishing head 8 attached to the end of a switch arm 4 carrying pressure gas to the contacts, to a contact 2. On operation of arm 4 the pressure gas is supplied thus maintaining, under action of piston 7, the contacts 1 and 6 in contact and breaking the circuit between 6 and 2. The extinguishing gas escapes through 2 which is hollow. Specifications 432,453 450.245, and 483,996 are referred to.
