Abstract

510,464. Vehicle fittings for loading. GREEN HOUS, A. V. Feb. 11, 1938, No. 4289. [Class 78 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXII] A hinged tail-board of a vehicle, of the type which can be turned down to form a ramp and is counter-balanced by a cable attached to it at one end and to a compression-device at the other end comprising a coiled balance spring mounted in a tube, is fitted with a helical balance spring arranged in a tube extending horizontally longitudinally of the vehicle body, preferably about mid-height of the body. Figs. 1 and 2 show a tube 3 mounted longitudinally of the vehicle at each side and carrying a piston 8 connected by the cord 9 to the ramp 2 at 10. Lowering of the ramp causes the piston to compress the spring 6 against the stop 7 forming the end of the tube. The tubes form stiffening members for the vehicle body and may hold lubricant.
