Abstract

519,139. Sawing. HOOK, A. R. Sept. 29, 1938, No. 28325. [Class 145 (ii)] A motor driven circular saw is mounted on a carriage which is fed forward or backward through multi-speed gearing also driven by the motor. The saw 9 is driven from the motor through bevel gearing 10 and a telescopic shaft 11, 14 which allows the saw carriage 7 to slide on the box 6 supporting the motor. The work is clamped between jaws 3, 4. The feed screw 17 is driven at either of two speeds from the outer member 14 of the telescopic shaft and works in a split nut 24 carried by the base and operated by a spindle 25 and handle 27 outside the carriage, the spindle passing through a horizontal slot. The travel of the carriage is limited by engagement of the handle 27 with a stop 28 by which the nut 27 is opened.
