Abstract
517,028. Spray carburetters. DODSON, E. July 14, 1938, No. 20880. [Class 7 (iii)] In an aircraft carburetter responsive to changes of air density the pressure in the float chamber a is varied by relay connected to a venturi passage c located in a pipe c<1>, c<2> connected to the engine inlet pipe on opposite sides of a throttle valve b'. Alternatively, the suction in the pipe c<2> may be maintained by a rotary pump driven from the engine or by. a windmill. A pipe d connected to the venturi passage has branches d<1>, d<2>, d' leading to spaces above and below two diaphragms e<1>, e<2> which are connected together and actuate (1) a valve d<5> which opens the relay to the venturi passage and (2) a valve f<2> which places the relay in communication with the inlet pipe on the engine side of the throttle. The spring pressure on the diaphragms is adjustable. A modified construction of relay is described.
