Abstract

515,913. Lathes. SACHSISCHE KNOPF UND BURSTENMASCHINEN WERKE GES. June 15, 1938, No. 17862. Convention date, June 15, 1937. [Class 83 (iii)] Lathes for profile turning buttons &c. with a simple tool which may be of hard alloy or a diamond, have the motion of the tool controlled by two levers adjustable in length, each of the levers co-operating with a separate cam and actuating one of a pair of slides supporting the tool the slides moving transversely to one another and the cam being mounted on a vertical shaft one immediately above the other. The tool 2 is carried on a compound slide arrangement the lower slide giving the longitudinal motion to the tool from a bell-crank lever 25 a roller on the end of which engages a cam 14. The upper slide derives its motion from a lever 21 which has a slotted connection with an adjustable pin carried on a further slide 16 and moved transversely by a cam 15 engaging the roller 17. The first slide has a similar adjustable connection with its lever for varying the effective stroke. The slides 16 and 23 are acted on by springs 27 and 18 respectively to maintain the rollers in engagement with their operating cams. The latter are driven through bevel gears 8, 9, Fig. 1, from a shaft 7 and the gears are connected together so that the whole of the toolmoving gear may be, adjusted through the handle 11 towards or away from the machine spindle.
