Abstract

514,722. Adsorption of gases. SUTCLIFFE. E. R. Feb. 12, 1938, Nos. 4480/38 and 4725/39. [Class 1(i)] An apparatus for recovering solvent or vapour from solvent or vapour-laden air comprises in addition to the main adsorption filter, an auxiliary filter into which the air remaining in the main filter at the end of a charging phase is passed and stripped of solvent, air being passed through the auxiliary filter in each charging phase of the main filter to remove part of the solvent which is returned to the main filter for recovery. The vapour or solventladen air from conduit el is fed through a dust extractor e, fan d, and pipe b to the main adsorption filter a. The stripped air passes through an outlet c to a pipe c<1>, and valves b<2>, b<3> are provided so that the vapour-laden air may in certain circumstances bypass the main filter a during the flushing process. The air in the filter a at the end of the charging process is driven by the steam through a pipe f<1> and valve f<4> to the auxiliary filter provided with a pipe f<3> connected to the suction side of 'the fan d preferably by opening into the casing of the dust-extractor e. The valve f<4> is opened during the charging phase and the air drawn through the inlet f<2> sweeps the vapour out of the auxiliary filter from which it passes to the main filter.
