[Class 126] In a stove for heating rooms and the like comprising a combustion chamber fed from a fuel magazine G and arranged to generate gas which is burned together with secondary air in a vertical passage K containing refractory radiants N, the secondary air is mixed with the combustible gases without passing through the combustion chamber or fuel magazine. The air for combustion enters the stove through a valve controlled inlet D, some passing between the fire-bars H as primary air and some passing through another valve Z to passages in an arch L from which it issues into the gases passing from the combustion chamber, beneath the arch, to the lower end of the passage K. The combustion products leave through an outlet C. A hotplate Q and water heating pipes T may be provided. A damper S may be opened to byepass the passage K when the fire is first lighted.
