Abstract
In a process for expelling and recovering vapours of carbon disulphide and the like from waste liquids produced in the viscose artificial silk and cellulose wool industries, the liquids are treated under a vacuum of 304-76 mm. of mercury absolute whilst at the same time a limited amount of air, not exceeding ten times the volume of the liquid being <PICT:0498799/III/1> <PICT:0498799/III/2> treated, is bubbled therethrough in a state of fine subdivision, and the carbon disulphide &c. sucked off with the air is collected in known manner by chemical binding, absorption or condensation. 1 cubic metre washing water containing 0,6 kg. carbon disulphide is treated in a receiver 1 with air bubbled through a distributer 2, the vapours and gases evolved being sucked off by a vacuum pump 4 operating under a vacuum of 152 mm. of mercury absolute. A plant for continuous operation is shown in Fig. 2, in which the washing water is sucked continuously through a pipe 4 into a de-gassing vessel 2, the liquid passing over a distributer 5 and trickling through a gravel layer 6. The vapours are removed by air fed through a distributer 12 and the liquid flows off through a pipe 9. The gases and vapours are sucked off by vacuum pipes 3, 8 and the height of the liquid is maintained constant by a float 11 which regulates a valve in the suction pipe 8.
