Abstract
480,543. Reversing-gearing. BLACKSTONE & CO., Ltd., and HALLEWELL, G. Aug. 31, 1936, No. 23841. [Class 80 (ii)] In reversing-gearing wherein the planet carrier k of an epicyclic gear, the sun wheels of which are secured to the driving and driven shafts respectively, is adapted to be connected to the driven shaft X by a clutch Y for forward drive and to be arrested by a brake band q for reverse drive, control is effected from a shaft a carrying a crank-pin f, to which latter one end of a curved link c is connected, the other end of the link being connected to the clutch actuating lever g. The shaft a also carries a cam d which co-operates with a lever m carrying an adjustable screw o controlling the brake band q. In turning the shaft a clockwise into the clutch-engaged position shown, the pin f passes beyond its dead-centre position. It may also pass beyond its other dead-centre position in moving to the brake-applied position. The shaft a may be turned by a hand wheel mounted thereon, or, as shown, by rack- and-pinion gear b, s operated by a fluid-pressure servomotor provided with adjustable end stops. The shaft a may carry another cam arranged to act on the governor spring of the driving engine so as to reduce the speed of the latter when the shaft a is in neutral position.
