Abstract

485,291. Tube &c. joints. PARRIS, C. W. Nov. 14, 1936, No. 31174. [Class 99 (i)] In a high pressure tube &c. joint, the end surfaces of the tubes 1, 2 are inclined or partly inclined at la, 2a to provide a recess to accommodate a metal cup ring 6 having flexible edges 6c which, when the tube ends 1b, 2b, Fig. 1, or flanges 3, 4, Fig. 7, thereon are in their normal abutting relationship, make line contact at A with the inclined surfaces 1a, 2a and are forced against said surfaces by the fluid pressure within the tubes. The thickness of the cup ring at any point is preferably proportional to the square root of the distance of the point from the contact line A, and the ring may be strengthened by a peripheral projection 6d and filled or partly filled with rubber, pitch, &c. 7.
