Abstract

<PICT:0473549/IV/1> Fibrous material of any kind in the form of loose fibres, yarns or fabrics is subjected to a wet treatment, such as washing, impregnating, fulling, or dyeing, while immersed and enclosed in a container or passing round a guide roller to which is imparted oscillations of some hundreds to some thousands per minute and of an amplitude of some millimetres. Wool or cotton in the form of yarn in hanks may be dyed by arranging the hanks on a pair of reels, one of which is in the dyeing liquor and is subjected to rapid mechanical oscillations. Linen threads on cross-wound bobbins may be mounted on a rotatable axle or on perforated tubes and may be slop-padded with solutions or suspensions of dyestuff by subjecting the bobbins to rapid mechanical oscillations. Wool felt may be dyed and soaped in a perforated drum which is rapidly oscillated while immersed in the liquor, or cotton piece goods A may be slop-padded with solutions or suspensions of dyestuff by passing them over rollers or drums C, immersed, as shown, in a tank E, the drum being carried by brackets supported by springs G1, G2, and by a shaft which can be rapidly rotated and which carries an unbalanced mass H. The form and amplitude of the oscillation may be controlled by variation of the mass H, springs G1, G2 or by changing the centre of gravity of the system and shaft.
