Abstract

473,408. Mudguards. WEISELBERG, L. April 8, 1937, No. 10048. [Class 136 (i)] In order to minimize damage due to collisions &c. an automobile &c. wing or mudguard 12 is provided at the outer edge with a protective edging 15 of spring steel &c. shaped to present in appearance, when applied, a lateral continuation of the wing 12 and supported at or near its lower edge, which is located below the edge of the wing, so as to permit of relative movement between the protective edging and the wing. The edging 15 is secured to the chassis by spaced resilient arms 16 arched over the wheel, cushioning buffers 19 being interposed between the part 15 and the main wing to prevent rattle and damage by vibration. The wing 12 is made narrower than usual, and the edging 15 completes its transverse contour. The arms 16 are attached to the chassis 14 and edging 15 by outwardlybent end parts 18, or by separately-formed angle-brackets, and each arm may consist of a single metal strap, or a pair of straps riveted together.
