Abstract
471,929. Grinding-mills. BORCH, N. S. March 13, 1936, Nos. 7683 and 10163. [Class 59] A process for the dry grinding of granular material comprises acting on the material while it is in a fluid-like state, in which it responds to static pressure and flows in the manner of a liquid, by causing a grinding element immersed in the material to rotate at high speed. As shown in Fig. 1, a disc or plate 6 adjustable in height and driven by a motor 5 rotates within the body of material in a container 1. Compressed air is admitted to the container through a pipe 2 to bring the material into a fluid-like condition. Material leaves continuously through valve 7 and pipe 8 and is carried by an air blast through pipe 9 to a separator S, the coarse material together with fresh feed entering the container through pipes 10, 3. In Fig. 2, two rollers 14, 15 rotate immersed in material in a container 11, the roller 14 being driven by motor 19 and the roller 15 driven by friction and urged into contact with the roller 14 by springs 18. Compressed air enters through pipes 12 and the material is circulated through a separator S. One large roll in contact with several small rolls may be used.
