Abstract

471,560. Air - filters. ELLOR, J. E. May 4, 1936, No. 12588. [Class 8 (ii)] A cowling G, having a forward opening H, is provided surrounding the air filter of an aircraft &c. of the type in which the end of the engine intake-pipe B is closed and the walls are perforated and are surrounded by a perforated sleeve D<1>, the intervening space D being filled with wire gauze impregnated with oil. The filter is of streamline form and the cowling is of similar form, but is shaped to crowd the air towards the filter. The cowling is of sheet-metal, which is bent inwards around the opening H, in order to provide a rounded edge. A rear hole K is provided to permit escape of dust.
