Abstract

479,120. Knitting. TRIGGS, A\'. W. (Davis & Sons, Inc., W. B.) June 22, 1936, No. 17280. [Class 74 (ii)] A knitted article of hosiery &c. comprises a tubular seamless top section 3 formed of consecutive courses of plain knitting of inelastic thread in which elastic thread 5 is incorporated by being knit together with the inelastic thread, in plating relation in spaced wales 10 of spaced courses, being floated on the inner surface of the fabric between the points of incorporation, thereby providing longitudinally spaced circumferential beads of elastic thread which engage the body of the wearer to support the hosiery thereon. The elastic thread being fed and knitted under tension, tends to straighten out its knitted loops and in doing so provides the elastic top with a rib-like appearance 4. There are preferably two ordinary courses of stitches between each pair. of elastic-bearing courses and two inter. mediate wales between those wherein the elastic thread is knit. The portions 8 of the elastic thread, where it is carried from one course to the next, are arranged in alignment and are enclosed in a mock seam 33 formed by a Merrow or a Wilcox and Gibbs machine. The elastic thread may be covered or uncovered. The fabric is knitted on a circular machine having a float stitch attachment. After knitting, the top may be provided with a stitched hem 41 or it mav be finished in an edger. Specification 383,026 is referred to.
