Abstract
475,855. Aerials. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. April 22, 1937, No. 11569. Convention date, April 22, 1936. [Class 40 (v)] A short-wave aerial comprises a number of coaxial dipole tubes, each a half-wave in length, through which runs a two-wire feed-line Sp connected alternately to the upper and lower members of adjacent sections. It is characterized by the feature that the feeder surge impedance is graduated from a maximum at the dipole nearest the transmitter or receiver to a minimum at the other end. The arrangement gives equal current loadings in all the dipole tubes. To secure this result, the feed-lines are spaced more widely from each other at the bottom .than at the top ; the surge impedance then decreases with distance from the transmitter or receiver. The metal dipoles are mechanically connected together by suitable insulators, or they may be drawn over a continuous ceramic tube. Or they may be constituted by silver layers formed on a long ceramic tube. By varying the phase-relation of the dipoles, a mushroom - shaped radiation field is obtained.
