Abstract

463,482. Collapsable cartons &c. BECK, H. Sept. 30, 1935, No. 26993. [Class 18] Collapsable cartons, e.g. shoe or flower cartons, or boxes are made from a blank comprising bottom a, sides b, ends c, the panels b, c being joined by rectangular panels folded to form triangular segments d, d<1>, and panels c<1> to form covers or inner linings for the walls c being in some cases provided. Panels e constituting covers are connected to panels b, the ends f being integral with the blank. Panels g, g<1> constituting handles may also be employed. The folding lines indicated may be produced by scoring or by die pressing. Panels f are secured to panels e by staples, rivets or wire stitches 12, and the parts g, g<1> may be secured by staples 13. Hand-holes h are provided in flaps g, g<1>. In the form shown in Fig. 7, the ends of one of the flaps g are removed and slits are provided to form a tongue 22 which engages between the flaps g, g<1> at the other end of the blank, hand-holes h being provided so that the box, which is intended for a bottle of liquid, cannot come open while being carried. The triangular parts d may be given an initial tendency to rise, e.g. by creasing or scoring from the appropriate side of the blank. Wood or other panels may be substituted for the card panels and may be appropriately hinged together. For an openwork crate, frames constructed of battens or stringers may be substituted for the panels. Press buttons 14 or other suitable fastening may be employed.
