Abstract
462,806. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent-Treuhand-Ges. fur Elektrische Gluhlampen) Oct. 15, 1935, No. 21985/36. Divided out of 459,250. [Class 39 (i)] In a high-pressure metal-vapour electric discharge device wherein the vapour pressure during operation is eight atmospheres or more and wherein the least distance between the electrodes 4 is not much greater and may be less than the least distance from either electrode to the wall of the envelope 1, shields 8, 10, Fig. 1, are provided to conserve the heat about the electrodes, prevent sputtering on the envelope walls and protect the seals of the leading-in wires from the heat of the discharge. In a modification, pierced shields 8, Fig. 2, are integral with the envelope. The shields may be of quartz, alumina, tungsten, or molybdenum according to position. Specifications 456,608 and 459,250 are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, heat reflecting coatings 12, 14 are placed on the envelope exterior ; light emerges through the gap 11, Fig. 1, but this may be replaced by a projecting window.
