[Class 9 (i)] Relates to shrapnel shells of the kind in which the explosion of the main charge h by a time fuze operates strikers to fire forwardly directed cartridges c housed in barrel-like recesses b in the shell body a. According to the invention, all the strikers e are carried on a single spring-controlled slidable piston f operating against the action of the spring g to fire the cartridges on the explosion of the main charge h, the cartridges normally abutting agains a recoil stop plate i supported by a sleeve liner m in which the piston travels. The bores d of the barrel-like recesses may be rifled, and may be parallel to the axis of the shell or inclined in the direction of rotation of the shell.
