[Class 103 (v)] [Also in Group XXI] In a carriage for the transport of a gun, searchlight or other heavy appliance and of the kind in which the carriage frame A is adapted either for connection by a readily releasable limber hinge to a supporting bogie E or for independent support upon the ground, one part d<2> of the limber hinge is arranged at the free end of a rocking frame D, which is hinged to the carriage frame A about an horizontal axis and carries a windlass G for raising the frame A relative to the rocking frame D. As shown, the hinge element d<2> is in the form of an eye co-operating with a pintle f at the end of an arm F which swivels about an horizontal longitudinal axis on the bogie E and is capable of being locked in its upright operative position. The rocking frame D has two rearwardly extending legs pivoted to the frame A at d' and carries the windlass, which comprises a drum G, chain H, transverse operating shaft J and crank handles J<1>. Bolts M on the frame D operable by hand wheels m<1> are arranged for engagement with upper and lower sets of eyes a<2> on the carriage A to fix the frame D in two positions relatively to the frame A. When the frame A is supported with its foot-plate C upon the ground, the bolts M are inserted in the upper sets of eyes, and the frame D is disposed in an inclined position with the pintle d<2> clear of the ground. After a coupling has been effected with the bogie E, and the frame A elevated by engaging the chain H with a book a<1> on the frame, the bolts M are inserted in the lower sets of eyes a<2>, as shown in Fig. 1, and the carriage is ready for transport purposes.
