Abstract

A preparation which promotes the growth of infants is obtained by drying colostrum, preferably of cows, fat being removed therefrom before or after drying, e.g. by means of a fat solvent. The colostrum less its fatty constituents may be dried entire, or casein may be separated from the albumen and globulin by addition of acid and dried and the albumen and globulin remaining in the filtrate may be precipitated by addition of alcohol and dried, or the whole of the proteins may be precipitated by addition of alcohol to the colostrum and dried together.ALSO:A preparation which promotes the growth of infants is obtained by drying colostrum, preferably of cows, fat being removed therefrom before or after drying e.g. by means of a fat solvent. The colostrum less its fatty constituents may be dried entire, or casein may be separated from the albumen and globulin by addition of acid and dried and the albumen and globulin remaining in the filtrate may be precipitated by addition of alcohol and dried, or the whole of the proteins may be precipitated by addition of alcohol to the colostrum and dried together.
