Abstract

<PICT:0466390/III/1> In the estimation of combustible constituents of a gas mixture by determining the change of resistance of an electric conductor, the latter comprises a wire or rod 17 of material having a constant resistance value and temperature coefficient which is enclosed in a tube of porous material 18 coated or impregnated with the catalytic agent 19. Two such elements are arranged in a Wheatstone bridge in the known manner for comparing the gas with a standard gas, which may be a portion of the gas under test from which the combustible constituents have been removed. The element exposed to the standard gas may or may not contain catalyst; in the former case the gas connections of the two cells may be changed over when the first catalyst becomes exhausted.
