Abstract
464,954. Regulating fluid flow. MENGERINGHAUSEN, M. March 27, 1936, No. 9198. Convention date, March 29, 1935. [Class 135] A noise preventing or damping device for liquid valves comprises a fixed tubular throttling member connected on the outlet side of the valve and having one or more channels for the flow of liquid therethrough extending in the same direction as the liquid flows from the valve, the said channel or channels being of a total crosssection such as to offer a resistance to the flow of the liquid which is at least three times that offered by the valve when fully opened. Figs. 3 and 4 show the application of the invention to a float actuated valve 7 for a flushing cistern. The tubular resistance member has two resistance channels 11a connected at one end to the outflow pipe 12 and at the other to a block 8 having side ports 11. The resistance member is inserted in the valve outlet 6 so that water passing from the valve chamber 9 through holes 10 enters the side ports 11. The resistance may be formed as a profiled section pipe which may be formed by the insertion of a cruciform bar into a circular pipe as shown 'in Fig. 5. In a modification the resistance is made adjustable. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification in which the supplementary resistance conduit is made in the form of an elastic pipe fitted on the tap outlet. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
