Abstract

Carbon in finely divided form, e.g. lampblack, carbon black, gas black or thermatomic black, is compacted by movement of a single imperforate surface, upon which the material is placed, in such a manner that the particles roll freely along the surface and bind themselves into globules. Preferably, a small quantity of carbon is placed in a horizontal drum which is then rotated slowly about its axis so that the particles are, in effect, continuously rolled gently down hill.
