Abstract
459,278. Photometric apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Lange, B. ; 45, Garystrasse, Berlin) Aug. 13, 1936, No. 22331. Convention date, Nov. 25, 1935. [Class 97 (i)] Relates to apparatus for measuring specular reflection coefficients of the type in which a light source 1 and a photo-electric cell 5 are contained in the same housing and form parts of a single unit, light from the source 1 being reflected at the surface 3 whose reflection is to be measured and thereby directed towards the cell. According to the invention, an image of the source 1 is produced on an aperture in a diaphragm 4 shielding the cell from diffused light. As shown in Fig. 1, a single lens system 2 is provided for this purpose, whilst, according to a modification, Fig. 3, two lens systems 2, 2<1> are employed, the source 1 lying at the focus of the lens system 2 and the aperture in the diaphragm 4 at the focus of the lens system 2<1>. Fig. 3 also shows a second rectifier cell 5<1> for measuring light diffused from the surface and screws 6, 6<1> for centring the lamp 1 in its housing. The test object 3 may be replaced by a standard object of known specular reflection coefficient, means being provided for adjusting the indicator of the indicating instrument to a fixed point on its scale when the standard object is in place.
