Abstract

454,950. Transformers. FRIES, E., 77, Oerlikonerstrasse, Oerlikon, Switzerland. April 10, 1935, No. 11098. [Class 38 (ii)] A welding transformer comprises a core having limbs 1, 2 carrying primary and secondary windings 4, 5 and pro. vided with a third limb 3 pivotally connected thereto to permit of the variation of the air gap 8. A choke winding 7 situated around the air gap is connected in series with the secondary winding 5 in such a way that at no-load the voltage induced in winding 7 by flux flowing through the limb 3, is added to the secondary voltage. The limb 3 is provided with a projection 9 which bridges the air gap at any position of the limb 3 and an air gap may be provided in the limb 2. The projection 9 may have a high magnetic permeabilitv and pronounced limit of saturation. The limb 2 is dimensioned to pass during working the main flux and also the flux produced in the limb 3 by the load current passing through the coil 7 which is in the opposite direction to the flux passing through this limb during noload. The projection 9 may be replaced by a small separate core and the limb 3 may be secured to the main core by a comb-like connection. The Specification also describes the arrangement applied to a Scott-connected transformer.
