Abstract
443,935. Floor-treating apparatus. ELECTROLUX, Ltd., Luton, Bedfordshire.- (Aktiebolaget Elektrolux; 2, Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm) March 26, 1935, No. 9387. Convention date, March 29, 1934. [Class 138 (i)] An electrically driven floor-treating apparatus in which a brush or brushes scrub and polish, comprises a motor (not shown), carried on a frame 11, Fig. 2, with a driving spindle 14 in contact with one or more brush carrier members 12. The requisite frictional pressure is produced by the resilient shape of a frame 17 or by the material of the frame or of the members themselves. In a preferred form, the frame 11 is of cast iron provided with cut-away portions 16 forming curved arms 17 supporting two brush discs 12 against the driving spindle 14. The arms 17 are somewhat resilient and keep the discs in contact with the spindle with the necessary frictional pressure. The disc 13 is driven by the discs 12. Pins 18 prevent the arms 17 from undesirable springing. In a modification, one disc 12 only may be used. The necessary function may be produced by the material of the discs, as by use of a resilient corrugated steel plate 21, Fig. 5, between a hub 20 and its periphery. In another modification, Fig. 7, a corrugated steel ring 24 may give the necessary resiliency. In other modifications, Fig. 8, a rubber ring 27 may be used or the driving spindle may be coated with thick rubber or the brush disc may have an internal rubber mounting.
