Abstract
442,478. Blast furnaces. KOLLER, K., 4, Ull÷i-ut, and GALOCSY, Z., 21, Nadorucca, both in Budapest. May 11, 1935, No. 13909. Convention date, May 12, 1934. [Class 51 (ii)] In the smelting of a mixture of iron ore and carbonaceous material in a blast furnace, the latter is supplied, at a number of points spaced around the melting zone, with a hot gaseous mixture produced in external combustion chambers B, these chambers being supplied with solid, liquid, or gaseous fuel, oxygen or oxygenated air in excess, and, if necessary, steam so that the mixture entering the furnace A through the nozzles C consists of carbon dioxide, steam, and free oxygen, with some nitrogen if oxygenated air is used. The waste gases from the blast furnace itself may constitute the fuel supplied to the chambers B. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the hot gaseous mixture produced in a single combustion chamber B<1> passes, on its way to the supply flue E and nozzles F, over a heat-exchanger G in which steam is generated or the air for combustion preheated.
