Abstract
449,896. Emergency exits and doors for vehicles. ARMSTRONG, A. C. H., 265, Broad Lane, Muirhead Avenue, West Derby, Liverpool. Nov. 4, 1935, No. 28381/34. [Classes 103 (ii), 103 (iv), and 108(i)] An emergency-exit from a rail or road vehicle or an aircraft comprises a sliding roof panel or door P which is actuated, in the event of a collision or overturning of the vehicle, by a tension spring K, Fig. 1, a latch Y retaining the panel in its closed position being released through linkages E, F, G, owing to one or more of fenders B arranged at the ends and/or sides of the vehicle coming into contact with another vehicle or the ground. Simultaneously, a plate M, Fig. 3, may be withdrawn from beneath a door T at the rear of the vehicle, so as to allow the door to drop downwards a slight distance on its hinges L and be clear of the catch W which holds it in the closed condition. In a case of emergency the roof panel or rear door may be released from the driver's cabin by the operation of a foot or hand lever.
